Summary:
The Red Fox has adapted to all habitats, from dense forest to tundra, from 0 to 15,000 feet above sea level.  We have seen these beautiful animals everywhere we go throughout the United States.  The adult male is usually seen with one or two females (vixens) and their offspring.  Their families usually lives in one main burrow where the females give birth and raise their young.  They will also dig several other holes for shelter in case of danger.  These tunnels can be over 30 feet long and all lead to the living chamber.

Mating occurs in the winter and the female will give birth to 4-8 pups in the spring.  The pups eyes stay closed for the first 10 days and are completely dependant upon the mother.  They are weaned at about 2 months old.  Their family will stay together until fall. then the young will leave to claim their own territory where they will spend the rest of their lives.

The Red Foxes diet consists of rodents, rabbits, berries, birds, earthworms, insects, fish and carrion.

The Red fox is very clever and intelligent, and has a heightened sense of sight, hearing and smell.  This helps them greatly when hunting and being hunted.  The Red Fox is known world wide as one of the greatest escape artist.
